Festive Days

1 - 4: Taking Dad's new kayak out for a spin on Christmas Eve.

5: Goodies waiting to be unwrapped under the Christmas tree. (The awesome tote bag is from Aunty Cookie).

6: Mum's festive table centrepiece. Complete with owl, birds and a cuddly squirrel!

7: A piece of the Girdle Buster Pie we had as one of our desserts. So sweet that I'm surprised we didn't all end up in a sugar-induced coma.

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas surrounded by family, friends and many lovely things to eat!

Anthropologie Window Display Fabulousness

When I visited New York recently I had the opportunity to finally visit Anthropologie, the uber-cool chain of shops that sell home wares, clothing and stationery and can only be found in the US and Europe (and online for the late night shopaholics among us).

The Rockefeller Center store definitely had some lovely accessories and heaps of home decor items to fossick through, although the prices of the clothes and some of the bed linens were super expensive. I would suggest going for their smaller home ware items and jewellery pieces which are smaller, cheaper (but just as cute and quirky!) and easier to pack away in your luggage for the flight home.

I also had to take some photos of the amazing window display they had created for the shop. It was made up of hundreds of little projector slides and I had a lot of fun inspecting them to see what pictures were captured in each one!

New York, I Love You

In September and October this year I was lucky enough to be able to go on a month long trip with my Mum and Dad to the USA and Canada (a big yay for my parents paying for their mooching student daughter to travel abroad!)

The place we loved most was New York and I thought I would share a few of my favourite photos of this amazing city. From the bustling crowds and the eternally lit-up Times Square to the roller coaster ride cab trips, New York is most definitely one the most entertaining, friendly and fun cities you could ever visit.

1. The Statue of Liberty
2. The Brooklyn Bridge
3. The Empire State Building
4. NYC traffic
5. The view from Central Park
6. The famous Bow Bridge in Central Park
7. The view from the top of the Empire State Building
8. The night-time view from the Top of the Rock Observation Deck of the Rockefeller Centre

Flea Market Finds...

1. Some English China plates to add to the growing collection.
2. The most gorgeous sewing basket, with vintage floral fabric to die for!
3. Cute Mushroom cookie jar.
4. Some Johnson plate love.
Saturday was a fruitful day at our local oppie! It is hard to pic a favourite but I think the sewing basket has to take that cake and was a bargain at only $4. It is really pot luck sometimes but I think that is what keeps us going back for more :)

We hope the op shop gods have been shining down on you as well this week :)

You can find more amazing finds here at Her Library Adventures and here at Apron Thrift Girl

Our Sunday In Pictures: At the Suitcase Rummage

Our very hot Sunday was spent at the final Suitcase Rummage of the year at Brisbane's Redacliff Place. A big thanks to everyone who stopped by to have a look at our little display and say "hi"!
We must also  say thanks to the lovely cloudy skies for helping us not to get too outrageously sunburnt while sitting outside all day.

My Creative Space: Getting Ready for the Suitcase Rummage!

My creative space this week has been dominated by vintage 1950's animal cameos from West Germany. Sarah and I have been busy preparing for the final Suitcase Rummage of the year so we've been stamping, gluing and cutting away to have everything ready for this Sunday. I've just finished off turning these super cute cameos into brooches and I'm really happy with how they've turned out (they would also make a lovely Christmas present for someone special!)

We will also be selling handmade retro-style mood rings, pretty agate necklaces, gift tags, wrapping paper and other special goodies  as well. So if you're looking for something fun to do this Sunday and need to get a start on your Christmas shopping, we'd love for you to drop by the Suitcase Rummage at Reddacliff Place from 12pm-5pm!

Check out other awesome Creative Spaces here.

Craft Room Renovations: Part 1

Yaysies! The first post on the new blog! I thought I'd put up a few photos of how we're gradually turning our spare back room into a new craft room for yours truly (and I should take this moment to officially thank my parents for letting me take over said spare room and also for braving the Saturday crowds at Ikea to get the new furniture to go in it!)

We had to clean out a lot of stuff, most of which you can't see in the photos because it was all under the computer desk and shoved into the filing cabinet. They seemed like great places to squirrel stuff away at the time, until the day I actually had to clean it all out. I'm definitely starting to see the benefits of living in a minimalist way- I mean, while it's totally devoid of personality and creativity- at least you don't have to dread the day when you have to clean out all the stuff you've hoarded away since you were ten years old. And yes, that New Kids On the Block poster was totally worth keeping!

The spare room, which soon after this photo was taken could be formally known as "The Bombsite".

Getting there- The new desk is in but we still have to move out a very heavy filing cabinet and re-paint the walls.
We also needed to repaint the walls due the lovely big holes left behind by the screws of the book shelves, not to mention the other gazillion holes left over from many years of being a kid's bedroom. So the renovating process has been going on for over a few weekends now and will hopefully be finished off this weekend when I wheedle my Dad into putting up three new bookshelves for me! I can't wait until it's all finished and I can have a big desk space to spread my crafty stuff out on- no more taking over the kitchen table (Mum will be most happy about this!)
